E. J. Boyer was County Surveyor for Norman County, Minnesota; then City Engineer for Crookston, Minnesota.
His obituary in the Crookston Times, quoted in the Norman County Index for June 22, 1933, said: "E. J. Boyer, former city engineer in 1912 and 1913 and a resident of Crookston for 21 years, died at 6:05 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 1933 - his 65th birthday, after an illness of two years." It added that he had been confined to his bed for only a week. "Death came at the family home, 602 South Main Street."
The article added: "Born in Norway, June 21, 1868, Mr. Boyer came to South Dakota in 1893 and to Crookston in 1912. ... He was a civil engineer. He was a member of the English Lutheran Church."
The Index added that Mr. Boyer was a former Ada resident and county surveyor of Norman County.
The Norman County Index the following week reported that E. J. Boyer's funeral was held Saturday, June 24, 1933, at the funeral home in Crookston followed by interment at Ada Municipal Cemetery. The Rev. R. M. Vordale officiated. The pallbearers included Elvin Ramstad of Crookston, son of a cousin of Anne Ramstad Boyer. Survivors listed in addition to his widow, son, and two daughters, were brothers, T. J. Boyer of Ada and Hans Boyer in Norway, and sister, Marit Hougan of Ada.
