Erma Whittaker

Erma Lillian Stratford Whittaker, 90, of Boise, died Saturday, July 24, 1993, in a Boise nursing home of natural causes.

Erma was born on Feb. 22, 1903 at Ogden, Utah. She attended grade school and Weber College (then Weber Academy) in Ogden. She married Esdras Whittaker on April 25, 1923 in the Salt Lake City, Utah LDS Temple. Mr. Whittaker was an accountant for Morrison-Knudsen Company and his work took them to many states including Nebraska, Texas, Arkansas, Montana, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona and Alaska. She has resided in Boise since 1962. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she served faithfully throughout her life. She started teaching the young children. Through the years she taught Primary, Sunday School, and MIA, and served on the Sunday School Stake Board of the Boise Idaho Stake when that stake took in Glenns Ferry, Bruneau, Mountain Home, and Meridian, as well as the six wards then in Boise. She also served as Relief Society President in Texas and Alaska. She and her husband served three stake missions. Erma was an excellent cake baker and decorator. While in Alaska the local newspaper featured a full page article and pictures of her cake decorating skills showing wedding cakes, doll cakes, and train cakes for little girls and boys.

Survivors include her five children, Janet Clegg and Louise Reimer, both of Boise, Norma Powell of Vernal, Utah, E.S. Whittaker of Austin, Texas, and Donald Whittaker of Sparks/Reno, Nevada, a sister, Alberta Tribe of Ogden, Utah; 19 grandchildren; and 60 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two grandchildren.
