He spent his early years in Wenatchee and later moved to Baker Flats in East Wenatchee, where he enjoyed hunting, climbing the nearby mountains and fishing in the river. Ernest attended school in East Wenatchee. In 1941, he joined the Army and served for 4 1/2 years. He spent some of his time in the South Pacific during World War II. After returning from the Army, he went to work for C & O Nursery in Wenatchee, where he became the nursery superintendent. On January 29, 1947, he married his wife of 64 years, Mabel Clair Hardman. They made their home in East Wenatchee, where they enjoyed raising their children and grandchildren. In 1979, he retired and spent a lot of his time fishing and taking trips to Reno with wife, Mabel.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Wenatchee Valley Medical Center Oncology Department, Dr. Charles Bricker and Dr. James Brown, for their years of care for Ernest. He will be forever remembered by the many family and friends whose lives he had touched.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 5, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Wenatchee Valley Humane Society.
