Some authors indicate that he was of Basque origin, others that he was of Italian stock, using Roxo instead of Rojo; other authors say that he was a creole [born in Mexico of Spanish blood] and that his roots were in el Bajio. Others say that he was the son of Capitan Francisco ROJO who accompanied Hernan CORTES in the conquest of the Southeast. But it is certain that he participated in the founding of Saltilllo with Capitan Alberto del CANTO at the end of the decade of the 60’s [1560’s]. He married Dona Beatriz de las RUELAS. They were the parents of Juana, who used the name NAVARRO, possibly the second surname of Dona Beatriz de las RUELAS NAVARRO, rather than the ROJO of her father. She married Capitan Juan de UZCANGA GUARNIZO; they had no descendants. He left all of his estate to the daughters of his sister Estefania: Maria, who married Martin NAVARRO and later Capitan Martin OCHOA de ELIZALDE; Estefania, who married Domingo GIL de LEYVA; and Beatriz who married Bernardo de los SANTOS COY. It is said that Santos ROJO, a businessman, at a fair in Jalapa in on business, bought an image of the crucified Christ to bring to Saltillo where it is venerated and is known as the Senor de la Capilla [Lord of the Chapel.] On March of 1608, he arrived with it and placed it in the Capilla de las Animas [Chapel of Souls] which he, himself, had built in the transept of the first parish church, on the side of the gospel, with its altar. In 1614, the priest Baldo CORTES, first priest of Saltillo, gave possession to Dona Beatriz de las RUELAS, Santos ROJO’s widow, of burial space for her and her descendants. Santos ROJO died in 1610; his wife survived him until 1650. He is buried in the Capilla del Santo Cristo [Chapel of the Holy Christ.]"

Juan Ocón y Trillo y eran sus parientes. Él fundador fue Juan de Alarcón Rabaneda natural de Antequera España, él nunca llegó a Costa Rica porque murió de camino ahogado en un río, pero su esposa Da. Leonor Chacón Narváez natural de Antequera, si vino a Costa Rica con sus hijos, casó aquí con el Cap. Francisco Pavón, ella era hija natural de Pedro Narváez Chacón y de Isabel de Ortega Villavicencio sus hijos fueron: 1. El Alf. Francisco de Alarcón Chacón Que tuvo con Juliana de Acuña a: Diego Chacón quien casó con Jerónima de Peñaranda. Y otra hija natural que desconozco su madre llamada Elena Chacón quien casó con el Dn. Fabián de Céspedes. 2. Da. ISABEL MARIA DE GUEVARA quien casó con Juan de Acuña. 3. Pedro Narváez murió también de ahogado con su padre. 4. Da. Juana de Alarcón Chacón quien casó tres veces Con Martín de Bonilla, con Francisco de Aguilar y con Pedro Enríquez El que usted menciona se llama José Chacón y es casado con Da. Cayetana Matamoros hija natural de Da. Petronila Matamoros, varias generaciones después.
