    • It emerged that they had received countless death threats by illegal occupants living on their farm. Bert Oosthuizen, an IT specialist who worked with Theron, retrieved documents and letters from their personal computer dating back to November 2003. They were addressed to the Magaliesburg police, the police commissioner and the Democratic Alliance.
    • In one letter, Van Dyk is suspected to have written that she was threatened with death. "The illegal occupants have threatened that they will kill me, my horses and my dogs. They also threatened to kill Tshepo, who works for me," it reads. The letter claims the police were notified of the threats, but "they cannot do anything before anything really happens". In one of the letters, Theron writes that there were three people living on the farm when they moved in on February 1 2002.
    • At times, the number of people living on the farm totalled up to 40. Inspector Pikkie Fourie of the West Rand unit against serious violent crime said he was aware of past problems with squatters on the farm, but these "have been sorted out". "We are following up on a good number of clues," he said.
