About Esther Goldberg
Esther Herzog Goldberg, daughter of Miriam andYoel Herzog, chief Rabbi of Paris, and father of Yizhak Isaac Halevi Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Chief Rabbi of the Holy Land. Had knowledge of Hebrew Sciences. Got ian academic degree in Music from the University of Leeds. In June 1916 was sent to a camp with her husband who was an Austrian citizen to Vire, Normandy for 3 years. In 1940 the German entered Paris. The rights of the Jews were taken from them. Many were sent to concentration camps. Those who remained could not go out of their homes before 6 am or come back home after 8 pm. They could not go to the theatre, the movies, visit coffe shops or take the underground, only the last one. Food could be bought only between 11 to 12 am.tried to find work as a seamstress in Paris. In 1945, 4 months after the war Esther was visited by Shimi Koss. Wrote one or 2 books about the family. Her book is entitled "Pirkei Haim" = Chapters of Life. Esther lived with her sister Helen Elke Malka Levinson, who was suffering from depression after the death of her baby. It was told that she promised her father to take care of Helen. Immigrated to Israel with her sister. Died in Jerusalem around 1975.
