Bio by Esti:
Esther Barck was born July 15, 1897 in Poland to Abraham and Frieda Barck. When she was about five or six years old, she immigrated to America along with her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. They settled in Cleveland, Ohio. By 1920, Esther was a dry goods saleswoman, along with her sister Sarah. Esther married Morris Levin on November 11, 1923. There were probably set up by a matchmaker, as was normal in those days.
They moved to Sussex Street in Detroit and had three children: Alice, Betty, and Saul. After Morris died in 1966, Esther moved to Oak Park, Michigan to be closer to her children and grandchildren, who were living there at the time.
Esther developed Alzheimer’s and died July 12, 1983, just a few days short of her 86th birthday. She lived long enough to see the marriages of three of her grandchildren and the birth of one great-grandchild, my brother Michael, named for Morris Levin. I am named after my great-grandmother Esther Levin.
