About Esther Newell
Esther was the daughter of Ebenezer and Jemima Cowles Langdon of Farmington Connecticut where she was born 19 November 1730. She married Elihu Newell. The Newell family were very early pioneers of Vermont. On their return to Vt. from Mansfield, Conn., they lived at Windsor, Springfield, and Royalton, Vt. until Oct., 1780, at which time Royalton was destroyed by the troops and Indians from Canada. The following December, the wife and child, with her brothers' family and a number of women and children, were sent to Connecticut for safety. At the close of the Revolutionary War, they returned to Windsor County.
