About Esther Pardo
From the book, "Die Pardos":
"The teacher and merchant Michael de Jacob Pardo, who was born on 18.11.1818 in Schwerin and died on 22.4.1885 in Hamburg, was married twice. In the first marriage with Esther de Joseph Luria de Lemos (born 27.6.1818, died 13.2.1872), and in second marriage with his sister-in-law Sara de Joseph Luria (born 30.6.1823, died 14.11.1999). Michael Pardo is a teacher at the Portuguese Community School in Altona. Due to his good knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese, he is working for the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg in order to strengthen the trading contacts of Schwerin with South America. From 1839 he works in La Guaira (Venezuela) for the English trading house Boulton. In 1841 he settled in Caracas and in 1847 became a business partner of the German merchant G. Blohm, one year later a partner of Blohm, Lindo and Cia. in Puerto Cabello. On a trip to Hamburg he meets his future wife Ester Luria, whom he marries on 13.10.1850.
After the wedding, he returns with his wife to Venezuela, where he became treasurer of the Savings Bank of La Guaira from 1847 to 1850 and later secretary of the "Compania Paquebotes de Vapor". In 1858 he leaves La Guaira and returns to Hamburg, where he becomes a citizen of Hamburg on 30.4.1858. Here he founds the company "Michael Pardo & Co." In 1868 he is elected together with Leopold Jessurun and Simon Ruben Henriques in the board of the Portuguese Jewish Community.
After the death of his wife Ester, he marries her sister Sara. On 22.4.1885 he dies in Hamburg. The graves of Esther and Sara Pardo are today on the Jewish cemetery Ilandkoppel (Ohlsdorf) / Historical Grindel Cemetery. The tombstone of Michael Pardo is unknown."
