AMHERST BEE-OBITUARY-October 12th, 1916-Mrs. Esther Shisler
The home-going of Mrs. Esther Shisler, widow of the late Jacob Shisler occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1916, at the home of Mr. Henry Oswald in this village, when in the glory of a long, well-spent life she was gathered to her fore fathers. An illness of long duration preceded her demise but her strong character upheld her though all the ordeals which came.
Esther S. Long was a life long resident of this locality, being a member of an old and well-known family. Her parents were David and Mary Long, to whom she was born in Williamsville on Oct. 28, 1843. She was married in Nov., 1863 to Jacob Shisler, eight children being born to their union, four of whom preceded their mother in death. Surviving to mourn their loss are three daughters, M. Emma Shister and Mrs. Burr Rogers of Buffalo and Mrs Frank Rogers of Getzvile, and one son, Christian B. Shisler of Williamsville, also two sisters, Mrs. Thomas F. Morley of Williamsville and Mrs. Charles Sweitzer of Niagara Falls, and five brothers, John D. Long of Washington D. C., Elias A. Long of Sue City, Iowa, Daniel B. Long of Williamsville and Dr. B. G. and Dr. Eli H. Long of Buffalo, and fifteen grand-children. The deceased was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church for many years. She lived a truly Christian life, forgetting self for others and being happy in this service.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Mennonite Church. rev. Wilmer Steele of Humberstone, Ont. officiated Interment was made in the family lot in the Williamsville cemetery.
