MRS. EDMUND STIRLING.

SINCE our last issue another old colonist has gone to swell the ranks of the great majority — one who has had more to do with the vicissitudes incident to Press life in a young colony than falls to the lot of womankind in general. We refer to Mrs. EDMUND STIRLING — the helpmeet, for upwards of fifty years, of the oldest journalist now living on Australian shores—a veteran contemporary who for nearly half a century, directed the destinies of the old Inquirer, and made it the most successful press-and-type property ever launched in this portion of the Sunny South.

The subject of our notice, after a residence of fifty-seven years in this colony, passed peacefully away at her residence in Beaufort- street, last Tuesday evening, beloved by her children, grand-children, and great-grand- children, and universally revered by friends of every class throughout the length and breadth of the land.
