About Ettore Santoni
ACCIDENT No. 12 - January 21, 1903. Occurred in the 7th level south of “A” Shaft, at the Arcadian Mine. Hatley San Antonio lost his life, being struck by a falling rock, while performing his duty as trammer.
An inquest was held before Coroner Fisher.
Paul Matrick and Mike Sullivan testified as follows: “Antonio was standing on a piece of timber trying to pull a large piece of copper rock down the mill. He should have gone behind the rock and forced it down, but he took the position in front, it being the easier way to get the rock down. The thought of its being dangerous apparently did not occur to him. The rock came down before he could have expected it to and did not give him time to get out of the way, and the rock fell on him causing instant death."
Verdict — "We, the jury, find that the said Hatley San Antonio, came to his death on the 21st day of January, 1903, at the 7th level south of “A” Shaft, of the Arcadian Mine, by being crushed by a rock which he had pulled down from a mill.”
