About Eunice Marshall
From family register sampler found on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eunice-Stebbins-American-ca-1785-family-reg...
Offered here without reserve is a family register sampler by a Eunice Stebbins, for whom a genealogical search reveals was born in Springfield Massachusetts in 1775 as documented by the sampler itself. Following 4 1/2 lines of alphabet, the sampler reads "Daniel born April 12 1766 Festus born March 5 1768 Eunice born April 5 1770 died August 27 1771 Quartus (?) born November 21 1772, Eunice born Janu. 14 1775 Lois born March 31 1777". followed by a row of numbers and then "Eunice Stebbins is my name and with my needle I wrought the fame and if my skill had been better would have mended". Not sure the last part of that makes sense ... little Eunice may have run out of room, but the sampler is all there, uncut, and includes its border all around. Indeed, there are no apologies ... the change in color from dark to light green in the silk threads probably means the she ran out of the dark green before completing her work ... there is no fading. In any event, assuming that Eunice was, say, 10 years old at the time she made this sampler, that dates the piece to 1785. As for dimensions, ignoring that frame, it measures 22" x 8 1/4".
