Mrs. Charles Bixby Dies in Spokane, Wash. Was Visiting Son, Lt. Cl. Orin Bixby Mrs. Charles Bixby, 65, died Tuesday in Spokane, Wash., where she and Mr. Bixby had been spending a vacation with their son, Lt. Col. Orin Bixby. They went to Washington the first of August and Mrs. Bixby became ill about two weeks ago.
Survivors include her husband, her son, Orin, a daughter Shirley, at home, and one grandchild. She had been an active member of the Methodist church.
The funeral will be held Monday from the Methodist church in Estherville but the time for the services has not yet been set. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 28, 1946)
Bixby Funeral Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Bixby, 54, who died Tuesday in Spokane, Wash., will be held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. C.J. Semans officiating. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery.
Eva M. Bixby Eva M. [Eva May Ireland] Bixby, for the last 32 years a resident of Estherville, died Aug. 27, 1946, at the Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane, Wash. She had just spent a week of real happiness with her entire family around her. She became ill on the morning of August 14, and could not regain her strength.
Shew as born near Rockwell, Ia., on November 11, 1891, and was 54 years old. Her survivors are her husband, Charles D. Bixby; one daughter, Shirley Nadine Bixby, at home; one son, Lt. Col. Orin M. Bixby, with whom she and the family were visiting in Spokane; and one granddaughter, Genine Amedee Bixby and other relatives.
Her mother preceded her in death 12 years ago and her father died just seven months before she did.
For the past few years, due to failing health, she was forced to give up all strenuous community activities. She was an active member and officer in the Community Women’s club. During the war just past she held the office of president of the “United Service Women,” and later on, through that organization, was responsible for the distribution of birthday cards to all the boys in service during the world war. She also helped on Red Cross drives and other community activities and for a period was on the rationing board in war activities.
She graduated from the Ocheyedan high school and later completed her education at the state teacher’s college in Cedar Falls.
From the time she was a child she was active in church, and she, her husband and family were all members of the Methodist church. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 5, 1946)
