In 1766 Matthias moved his family to New Brunswick[4] [5]

January 1, 1771, she married Benjamin Allen[6], son of Benjamin and Mehitable (Cary) Allen, [NO], who was given a land grant in New Brunswick in recognition of his service with Wolfe at the taking of Quebec and Louisburg, Canada in 1758-1759, and second with the Free French in Nova Scotia. (He was a corporal, serving in Isaiah Boudreau's company of Captain Eddy's regiment who fought against the English in Cumberland County NS (see also the profile for Benjamin Allen for more on this disputed service record)[7] [8]).

Origins

The Somers family came from a place just outside of Freiburg im Bresgau in the Dutchy of Wurtemburg on the Rhine River known as Kohl. They first settled near Philadelphia in Pennsylvania and came with other Pennsylvania German families to Petitcodiac at the Bend after receiving land grants there. Matthias Somers married Christina Noll or Null. The Noll family appears to have come from Rimmels in the Hesse region of Germany to Pennsylvania.

"Genealogist Les Bowser's research has unearthed the name of the ship carrying the 11 families, namely the 50-ton single-masted sloop Lovey captained by Nathaniel Shiverick. As reported by Bowser in the Winter 2008 issue of "Generations", the names of the ship, captain and destination were published in the weekly Pennsylvania Gazette on Apr 24, 1766 (before departure) and May 1, 1766 (after departure). Les Bowser's book "The Search for Heinrich Stief, A Genealogist on the Loose" (Nimbus Publishing Limited, 2001) reported the discovery of an extremely informative list of the 5 families' members from 1766 which lists the children in descending order of age:"
