Evert was the son of Marinus Zegers (a baker) and Willempje van den Heuvel. Evert was one of 12 children. He lived in Barneveld until 1920 when, at the age of 17, Evert, his parents and six siblings left Rotterdam and came to Ellis Island on a ship called "Noordam." Evert became a US citizen on 5-8-1929.
Evert married Helena Maria Maatman about 1925. They lived in Chicago, then later in Worth, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. They had 4 children, three sons (Vernon, Kenneth and Richard) and a daughter who died as an infant.
Evert completed an eighth grade education. He drove a truck for a lumber company. After their children were adults, Helen and Evert moved west and lived in California, Washington and Oregon. He passed away in Mt. Vernon, Washington, but his residence at the time was Salem, Oregon* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jul 17 2021, 4:36:22 UTC
