Born 3.5 pounds so spent first 3 years of his life in the hospital. He was raised by his great aunt Margrethe who he loved very much. He became estranged from his family and left Denmark to venture to Australian outback or the Peruvian Jungle when he met our beautiful mama and stayed in Canada. He competed professionally in boxing but due to the corruption he stopped. He also travelled with a circus doing aquabatic flips on animals and on the trapeze. An amazing gymnist. Spoke several languages. In 1942 during the war he went underground with the resistance when the sloop he was on hit a mine in the North Sea and he was one of only two survivors found floating on debris. When i was age 12 a pregnant lady pushing a stroller was being attacked by three men and i watched my father run to her defence. He knocked all three out in a couple of minutes. He Loved his children but did not know how to show affection. He changed careers from forest ranger & game warden in NWT to salmon fisherman on a 47’ foot fishing boat he owned called ‘noble savage’ and also owned/operated Main Drainage (plumbing business). He hated the city. Mom loved vancouver and hated the remote places he loved. A marriage doomed. He had a wandering eye... many other women until he fell for Marion around 1974 and they married around 1987. He fell and sustained a few fractures around age 90 which affected his mobility then fell and fraxtured his hip and pelvis again at age 93. On his 95th birthday he started showing signs of dementia. He smoked the strongest unfiltered cigarettes from age 15 to age 80 when he had a heartache. He smoked 3 packs daily and was able to quit cold turkey. Strong will power. He was a meat, potato, gravy kinda guy... nothing else except many eggs including raw! He drank a gallon of milk daily. It shocked my brother David and I as we both looked after him in his later years until he went into care around 2011. Quite an amazing story of survival. He lived longer than any of his family members and defied all odds since birth. When he walked away from his life in Denmark and he bought a new name: Ewald Carl Forstved... always was a loner! It was wonderful connecting with my danish relatives as we knew very little about our father … a man of very few words and he was very humble. DNA has now connected us to being direct descendants of 500 years of our great grandfathers and great grandmothers being kings/queens of the franks as well as emporers & empresses of the Holy Roman Empire. Our tree now dates back to around 500 AD from the royal blood line to about 1200AD.
