I've just looked up the DN of Fanny Augusta Bird who was married to William Hancorn Smith. It has information that doesn't match up to other information that has been circulated about the family so I thought it would be of interest to the Smith watchers. Reference:KAB MOOC 6/9/321 1807 Name of deceased: Fanny Augusta Mathilda Smith (born Bird) divorced, now Mutten. Birthplace: Island of Ascension; parents, Thomas Birde, Elizabeth Bird; Age 41 years 10 months; condition in life : nurse; married to Charles William Mutten. Date of death 29.7.1894 at own house, Port Elizabeth. Children: John Hancorn Smith, Gertrude Hancorn Smith, Alice Bird Hancorn Smith, Frederick Lawrence Hancorn Smith, Nina Maud Hancorn Smith, Fanny Augusta Hancorn Smith, Ella Minnie Hancorn Smith, Effie Victoria Hancorn Smith, Nora Stych Mutten, Hilda Mary Mutten. No property & no will. Dated at Port Elizabeth 15 Aug 1894, signed by Chas. Mutten, husband of deceased.
