Fanny Massey

The marriages and children of Fanny Overton are confusing. She was married to someone before she married Benjamin Massey, with at least five prior children. These children were usually called Overton, but sometimes appear as Massey. These children were listed in the Will of Benjamin Massey as follows: quoted from Louisa Co VA Will book 6, p 268. "204 acres of my land to children James Overton, Benjamin Skinner Overton, Clary She Harly Overton, and William Burdell Thornton Overton, my children born to my wife Fanny Overton before I married her. Fountain Mesheck Massey my youngest son. Sally Muney Overton is child of my wife." The surname Massey is often shown as Massie. William Burdell Overton is often shown as Massey. James Overton is often shown as Massey. William Burdell Overton is sometimes shown as William BURDITT Overton. The 'Sally' named in the Will actually was named Sarah. The Will of Benjamin Massey is undated, but most assume it to be dated 1822-1824. The name 'Clary She Harly Overton' looks very peculiar but that's what the Will book shows! Her name was probably Clara.
