About Fanny A Pritchard
At 8:30 o'clock last Monday evening a life that for twenty-five years had been filled with trials and sickness was brought to a close, when Mrs. Fanny Higby, wife of Thomas E. Pritchard passed away at her home on Gomer Hill. Mrs. Pritchard was the youngest daughter of George W. and Margaret Whitehead Higby, and was born in West Turin, June 16, 1853. When quite young, her parents moved to a farm about four miles north of Turin village, where her younger days were spent, and where she commenced her education in the district school. She afterward attended Turin Union Free school and Lowville Academy. She was a quiet, unassuming girl, and a diligent student, and by her kind and courteous manner, won the esteem and friendship of the faculty and students. After leaving school she took up teaching and for nine years followed that profession. March 7, 1878, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Pritchard and went with him to live on the farm where she died. When but fourteen years old she joined the M.E. Church and has since been a faithful member of the same. When quite a young woman, disease was fastened upon her, and for the past twenty-five years she has not known what it was to be well. She bore all her trials and sufferings with the fortitude and patience of a Christian. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons: Ernest D., of Elmira, and Raymond Pritchard, of Utica; her aged father, George W. Higby, of Turin, and one sister, Mrs. E. H. Eddy, of Watertown. The funeral will be held from the Welsh Hill M.E. Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock; internment in Turin cemetery.
