His wife, Johanna Francina van Niekerek was aged 20 years and from the Lindley congregation. They were married after banns and with their parents consent at the NG Kerk, Lindley on 29 October 1895 by presiding minister, Ds H.E. du Plessis in the presence of the following witnesses :
