Fernando R. Poe Sr. received a degree from the University of the Philippines as a Doctor of Dental Medicine; but is best known as a Filipino actor and director.

When his son, Fernando Poe Jr. (Ronald Allan Poe) ran for president in 2004, falsified documents emerged showing that Fernando Poe Sr. was first married to a woman named Paulita Gomez in Intramuros, Manila.
