HALSTEAD — Fleeta Belle Gish, 92, retired Halstead Middle School teacher, died on Wednesday (Dec. 14, 2011) at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation in Halstead. She was born on Jan. 19, 1919, in Belle Plaine to George and Carolyn (Hamilton) Clewell. On June 27, 1943, she married Earl Dean Gish in Belle Plaine. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1994. A Halstead resident since 1967, she was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Halstead, The Royal Neighbors and the American Association of University Women. Survivors include a daughter, Becky Gish; granddaughter, Cassidy Gish; and a grandson, Chandler Gish, all of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by brothers, Kline and Alexander Clewell, and a sister, Letha Mae Epperson. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Halstead, with the Rev. Jane Voelkle officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Belle Plaine Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Halstead Middle School, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home of Halstead.
