Maule Colledge served in the Royal Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant and died during World War II. His DeHavilland Mosquito (139 Squadron) was supposedly crashed into the sea while returning from a bombing raid over Berlin, in the course of which all radio contact with the aircraft had been lost.
Recent research points to the possibility that his Mosquito might have collided with Squadron Leader David Maltby's Lancaster bomber. Maltby's Squadron was returning from a bombing raid over Germany that was aborted due to poor weather conditions. Flight Lt Colledge return route would have crossed over the exact position of Maltby's Lancaster when it crashed at 0.45 am on 15 September 1943.
Flight Lt Colledge name appears at Runnymede Memorial.
