Lester’s grandmother Agard died when his mother was 5 yrs. Old. His grandmother’s name was Anna Hansine Agard. She was born in 1862 or 1863 and died on July 18, 1893 at 31 years, 9 months. of age. His grandfather was Marcus Agard. He was born in 1850 and died in 1922 at age 72.

They were both born in Denmark in a town in the northern tip of Denmark. They had three daughters: Laura, Florence Minnie and Cecilia Marion. Cecilia died when she was 21 years, 8 months and 10 days old.

Lester’s mother was 5 years old when her mother died. The father reared the three girls. When Lester’s mother would receive letters from relatives in Denmark she would take the letters to Joe’s Super Food Market and the butchers (who was from Denmark and spoke the language) would read the letters to her.

In Denmark the name Agard was spelled Aagaard. When they moved to the U.S. the spelling was changed to Agard (address 522 N. Baker, Santa Ana, CA). Lester’s mother’s name was Florence Minnie Agard. She was born in Auburn, California on September 19, 1888. On April 8, 1920 she married Lester’s father. The minister was J.A. Stevenson of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Orange. They first lived at 1621 W. Fifth St, Santa Ana, then N. Baker, then 936 W. Walnut St., Santa Ana.

Florence died in December 1935 when Lester was 6 years old.
