Floye Baxley Carter passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at The Haven at Windermere in Baton Rouge. Floye was born in Pleasant Hill, LA and spent most of her adult life as a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Pascagoula, MS and Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Newton Carter, her daughter, Joyce Woodruff, her parents, Robert Baxley and Nancy Baxley Williams, four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son, Dale (Neva) Carter of Baton Rouge, LA, son in law, Robert Woodruff of Johns Creek, GA, six grandchildren, John (Ashlee) Woodruff of Cumming GA, Traci (Will) Phillips of Alpharetta, GA, Jeannette (Robert) Towster of Houston TX, Jill Carter of Austin, TX, Sally (Alan) Goode of Houston, TX, Christopher Carter of Baton Rouge, LA, and 5 great-grandchildren, Henry and Jack Towster, Baxley and Sadie Woodruff, and Emerson Phillips. Floye was a devoted wife and mother. As a young mother in Baton Rouge, she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, an assistant Girl Scout leader, President of the CPA Auxiliary, President of the PTA, school room mother, and Sunday school teacher and volunteered for the Red Cross, United Way, and March of Dimes. In Pascagoula, she was a member of the Christian Women's Club and the First Baptist Church Senior Choir. In Mobile, Floye was a member of the Cottage Hill Baptist Church and sang in the senior choir. A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church, 8354 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70809 on Saturday June 15 at 11:00 am. Floye loved flowers and all things beautiful.
