About François Allard
François is the first of his line to arrive in North America. He arrived in Québec for Normandy in 1666 as a colonist apprentice providing labour for the widow of Jacues Badeau, Anne Hardouin. In 1670, he acquired a concession of land at Bourg-la-Reyne in the present-day suburb of Charlesbourg in Quebec City. From there he began his family. He heads the largest known line of descendants on the continent.
Francois heads one of three separate, unrelated Allard lines that originated in France and migrated to Canada (New France) in the 1600's. One, headed by Simon Allard (also in this database), came from Poitou in 1683. He married Catherine Lacome in Pointe-aux-Trembles near Montreal. Another, headed by Pierre Allard, came from the Vendée region of Poitou in 1680. He married Anne de La Voye in Quebec. All three of these lines are predominantly Catholic and all have a lineage that continues to the present day.
There is also at least one other line that also continues today. It is mainly Protestant, headed by Hugh Allard who migrated from England to Maine about 1630 or so. He married Grace Tucker in Maine. There are one or two other possible lines that migrated from Europe (or the Caribbean), to the southern US in the 1700s, believed to be originally French, though dates and origin are uncertain. These are the main roots of most North American Allards today.
