About François Lesieur dit Desaunier dit Desaulniers

François was the father of

(1) M. l'abbe Thomas-Alexis (Alexis) Lesieu Desaulniers(1836 - )

He became a priest on 21 Sept 1862. He was the vicar of St-Croix de Quebec, was at St-Guillaume in 1864 and was the curé of St-Bonaventure d'Upton from 1865 to 1889. In 1889, he was curé of Stanfold. In 1898, he was vice-chancelier of the diocese of Nicolet. In 1877, he went to Rome for the Golden anniversay of Pie IX. In 1890, with His Holiness (Grandeur) Mgr. E. Gravel, the Hon. Judge Augustin Choquette and his brother, François Desaulniers, he visited English (British) Columbia.

(3) The Hon. François-Pierre-Sévère Lesieur Desaulniers(1850-1913)

He was ordained a priest in 1872 but left the priesthood three years later. He studied to be a lawyer in Trois-Rivières, completed his studies in Québec and was called to the bar in 1879. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Québec in 1878,representing St-Maurice as a Conservative. He was re-elected in 1881 and, in 1886, he was named assistant-clerk of the Cons. Législatif de Québec by the Ross cabinet and also by the Mercier Cabinet. He did not run for re-electiion in 1886 and was succeeded by his law practice partner, Nérée Le Noblet Duplessis. He moved to federal politics.

His term of office was from May 1, 1878 to Oct 13, 1886

He was elected as to the House of Commons in 1887, representing St-Maurice for the Conservative Party. He received 918 votes, compared to the 615 votes for L.A. Lord. a Liberal. He was re-elected in 1891 (with 894 notes compared to the other conservative candidate Léon Louis Desaulniers with 749 votes). He did not run in 1896. Total service was from April 13, 1887 to April 24th, 1896.

In 1896, he was named Clerk of the Committees of the Chamber of the Assembly of Québec by the Flynn Cabinet. In 1898, he was still doing that job. He ran again in Nov 7th 1900 Federal election for the district of Trois-Rivières & St-Maurice but was defeated.
