William Edward Anderson and Eliza Burgwin Anderson had the following children: Mary Read Anderson, born May, 1830, George Burgwin Anderson, born April 12, 1831, Elizabeth Anderson, born April 29, 1833; William E. Anderson, born Nov. 29, 1835 and Robert Walker Anderson, born January 23, 1838. Although she died in Hillsborough, Orange County, N.C., and could have been buried in Hillsborough like her son Robert Walker Anderson, current research instead locates her final resting place as Oakdale Cemetery on Wilmington, N.C. It is believed that she was initially buried at the Hermitage plantation in New Hanover County, the home of her father George Burgwin and mother, Maria Nash Burgwin. There are a number of reasons for this belief. First, the Hermitage was the family home place where her parents were both still living. Secondly, her mother nursed her during her four-week final illness. Thirdly, her parents George and Maria Burgwin brought the remains of their son, Eliza’s brother, Mexican War hero Captain John Henry King Burgwin back to the Hermitage in 1848 after his body had been buried at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Territory, in 1847. Sources: Obituary of Mrs. Eliza B. Anderson, wife of Wm. E. Anderson, Esqr., published in a Hillsborough Recorder newspaper and “Inscriptions” Newsletter, article: Captain J.H.K.Burgwin published by Friends of Oakdale Cemetery, Inc., Volume 8, No. 1, Spring, 2012. http://www.oakdalecemetery.org/docs/Inscriptions-Spring-2012.pdf.

In 1872 the remains of a number of members of the Burgwin family were removed from the cemetery at the Hermitage and moved to Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington. These included George Burgwin, his wife Maria Nash Burgwin, their son, Captain John Henry King Burgwin and “three other Burgwin family members.” Sources: Oakdale burial database (listing George Burgwin and wife and three unidentified Burgwin family members in Section H, Lot 89) and “Inscriptions” Newsletter, article: Captain J.H.K.Burgwin published by Friends of Oakdale Cemetery, Inc., Volume 8, No. 1, Spring, 2012. http://www.oakdalecemetery.org/docs/Inscriptions-Spring-2012.pdf

It is believed that the remains of Frances Eliza Bush Burgwin Anderson were among the unidentified three Burgwin family members moved from the Hermitage to Oakdale in 1872. Her grave is unmarked.
