Frances was the founder and president of the Women’s Hospital in Detroit, MI.

She was involved in the Detroit Industrial School.

Frances and her sister Mary Newbury Adams were both members of the Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. Frances was this orgainzation's Vice-President. The Chicago History Museum has an archive of documents concerning the activities of the Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.
