the tenth day of November in the one and thirtieth yeare of the Raigne of our soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith etc. Annoque domini 1679

I Frances Pigott Abington Pigotts in the County of Cambridge widow the Relict and sole Executrix of John Pigott Esquire deceased calling to mind the manifold examples of mortality which dayly happen and considering the brevity of this life the certainty of death and the uncertaine time thereof doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in writeing in manner and forme following (videlicet) First and principally I committ my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hopeing and assuredly trusting through the alone merritts of Jesus Christ my blessed Lord and Saviour to have all my sins pardoned and forgiven And to be made pertaker of life everlasting And now being in good health and perfect memory praised be God I doe in the next place Revoake all former wills by me made And I doe hereby constitute make and appoint my loveing sonn and daughter Francis Pigott and Margarett Pigott Executors of this my last will and Testament And as for my body I committ it to the Earth whereof it was made to be buried in such decent and Christian manner as my said Executors shall thinke meet and convenient And as for my worldly estate which it hath pleased God in much mercy to blesse me withall I dispose of it as followeth Inprimis I give and devise unto my sonne John Pigott the summe of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to him by my said Executor within two yeares after my decease I give to my said sonne John All my furniture in the Hall and Great Parlor of the house wherein I now live (the Pictures hanging there only excepted) and alsoe all the furniture in the Chamber over the great Parlor aforesaid. I give and bequeath unto my sonne Granado Pigott the like summe of one hundred pounds to be paid unto him by my said Executors within the same space of two yeares after my decease I give unto my daughter Mary now the wife of Richard Astry gent the summe of fifty pounds to be also paid unto her within the said space of two yeares after my decease I give unto my said Children John Granado Francis Mary and Margarett All my Linnen lying in the Gallery and all my Plate to be equally divided amongst them I give unto my Grand- -son Edward Ratcliffe the summe of Twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to buy him a Ring or a peece of Plate withall I give unto my Grandaughter Frances Pigott the sume of fifty pounds of like money to be paid unto her with--in the time of two yeares after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my loveing Neece Anne Chester daughter of my Brother Henry Chester the summe of Three pounds of lawfull money of England To be paid unto her by my said Executors yearely and every yeare for and dureing the terme of her naturall life. I give unto the poore people of Abington Pigotts the summe of three pounds Item I give unto the poore people of the parish of Litlington the summe of twenty shillings I give unto the poore of the parish of Gilden Morden the like summe of twenty shillings I give unto the poore of the parish of Steeple Morden the like sume of twenty shillings I give unto my old servant Richard Adams if he shall be in my service at the time of my death the summe of five pounds to be paid him within one yeare after my decease. I give unto Richard Saggers the son of Richard Saggers deceased the like summe of five pounds To be paid to him at his age of one and twenty yeares All the rest and residue of my goods and chattells whatsoever both reall and personall not herein before by me disposed I give and bequeath unto the said Francis Pigott and Margaret Pigott my sonne and daughter whome I have made my Executors hereof as aforesaid desireing them to pay all my just debts and see this my will performed In wittnes wherof I the said Frances Pigott widow have to each sheete of this my will conteyning two in number sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written / Francis Pigott Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Frances Pigott widdow as her last will and Testament in the presence of William Jackson Jane Harvy Mary Smith Peter Dent.

THE PROBATE OF THE WILL OF FRANCES PIGOTT, 10th NOVEMBER 1679 (PCC 164:KING)

Probatum fuit huiusmodi Testamentum apud London Coram venerabili viro Domino Richardo Lloyd milite et Legum Doctore Surrogato venerablis et egregij viri Domini Leolini Jenkins Militis et Legum Doctoris Curie Prerogative Cantuariensis Magistri Custodis sive Commissarij legitime constituti decimo sexto die mensis Decembris Anno domini Millesimo Sexcentesimo Septuagesimo nono Iuramento Francisci Pigott unius executoris in dicto testamento nominato Cui Commissa fuit Administracio omnium et singulorum bonorum jurium et creditorum dicti defuncti de bene et fideliter administrand' eadem ad Sancta Dei Evangelia Iurat' Reservata potestate similem Commissionem faciendi Magarete Pigott alteri Executor' in dicto testamento nominato cum venerit ea[...] petitur./

Translation

This will was proved at London before the venerable Master Lord Richard Lloyd, knight and Doctor of Laws, surrogate of the venerable and excellent master Lord Leolinus Jenkins, knight and Doctor of Laws, Master, Guardian or Commissioner, legitimately constituted, of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, on the 16th day of the month of December in the year of the lord 1679 on the oath of Francis Pigott, one of the executors, nominated in the said will. To whom was committed Administration of all and singular the goods, rights and credits of the said deceased, sworn on the holy gospels to administer well and faithfully the same; power reserved to make a similar commission to Margaret Pigott, the other executor, nominated in the said will, when she comes [....] it is sought.
