About Frances E. Franzsen
From a youg age she felt called to be a missionary nurse. She was unable to gain entrance to a training hospital and worked in a nursing home in Warden where she gained practical experience. She then trained as a general nurse and Midwife at the hospital in Bloemfontein. After her training she went to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) where she worked for 32 years, sometimes as the only person with medical training. She was in sole charge of a 65 bed hospital and later of a 180 bed hospital by the authority of the Director of Provincial Medical Services. The hospitals were 146 miles apart and the roads were bad. As there were no male personal, she was forced to leave for security reasons and returned to South Africa where she nursed her mother for 2 years and then became night sister at the Elize Liddel Old Age home. She actively nursed for 55 1/2 years. She eventually was a resident in the "Huis Davidtz" OAH.
