About Frances Goode
Page 29 "Virginia Cousins".
- Mackarness... is one of the most unusual of surnames. ... Thought to come from Scotland, then found located in Oxfordshire & several parts of the Midland counties of England. According to Hotten's "Lists of Emigrants to America" Jacob Mackerness and his wife, with two servants and four slaves and William Mackerness, with one child, three servants and two slaves, were living in 1680 near the town of St Michaels, Barbadoes. They were doubtless near kinsmen of the wife of John Goode.
Only Samuel and perhaps Frances were born in Barbados. The rest of John Goode's children were born at the family's Whitby plantation. John's first wife died shortly after they arrived in Virginia, after which he married Anne Bennett, Robert's mother.
