- EDWARD MORGAN, esq. of Llantarnam and Penrice, M. P. for Monmouthshire in 1586, who m. Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Hugh Smith, esq. of Long Ashton, in Somersetshire, and had a son and successor,
- WILLIAM MORGAN, esq. of Llantarnam, who m. the Lady Frances Somerset, daughter of Edward, Earl of Worcester, and was father of
- I. SIR EDWARD MORGAN, of Llantarnam, who was created a BARONET in 1642. He m. Mary, daughter of Sir Francis Englefield, bart, of Wotton Basset, in Whiltshire and was s. at his decease, 24th June 1653, by his son,
- II. SIR EDWARD MORGAN, of Llantarnam, living in 1661, who m. Frances daughter of Thomas Morgan, esq. of Mangham, and was s. by his son,
- III. SIR EDWARD MORGAN, of Llantarnam, who m. for his second wife, Mary, daughter of Humphrey Baskerville, esq. of Pontrilas, in the county of Hereford, and by that lady, who wedded, secondly John Grubham Howe, esq. father of the first Lord Chedworth, had two daughters,
- ANNE, who died unm. bequeathing her moiety of the inheritance to John Howe, esq. who had married her mother, Lady Morgan.
- FRANCES, m. Edmund Bray, esq. eldest son of Sir Edmund Reginald Bray, of Barrington Park, Gloucestershire, and had issue, _______________________

- o.s. of Sir Edward Morgan, 2nd Bt. of Llantarnam by Frances, da. of Thomas Morgan of Machen, wid. of William Lewis of Llandewy Rhydderch. m. Mary, da. and coh. of Humphrey Baskerville of Pontrilas, Kentchurch, Herefs., 2da. suc. fa. 3 July 1679.1
- .... His uncle, Sir James, ‘a violent zealot’ for the Church of Rome, was the last holder of the baronetcy. Morgan was careful to provide against his succeeding to the estate, which went to his own daughter Frances, whose brother-in-law, William Bray, occupied the borough seat as a Whig from 1715 to his death.4

- LLEWELLYN AP IVOR, lineally descended from Cadivor Vawr, Lord of Kilsaint, m. Angharad, dau. and co-heir fo Sir Morgan Meredith, Lord of Tredegar (descended from Rhys, Prince of South Wales), and thus acquired the Tredegar estates. Llewellin was father of three sons, viz,
- MORGAN, his heir.
- Ivor, of Werncleppa, or Gwerney Cleppa, near Tredegar, ancestor of the MORGANS of Werncleppa, whose last male heir, Roger Morgan, Esq., d. in 1632, when his estate passed to the Tredegar family.
- Philip, whose son, DAVID AP PHILIP AP LLEWELLIN, seated at St. Pierrer, in the county of Monmouth, was ancestor of the family of LEWIS of St. Pierre. (See BURKE'S Landed Gentry.)
- The eldest son,
- MORGAN AP LLEWELLIN, Lord of St. Clere, in Carmarthenshire, and of Tredegar, co. Monmouth, m. Maud, dau. of Rhys ap Gronwy, Lord of Kybor, and had two sons,
- LLEWELLYN, his heir.
- Philip, who acquired the estate of Langston, co. Monmouth, in marriage with Gwenllian, 3rd dau. and co-heir of Sir John Norris, Knt. of Penllyne Castle, Glamorganshire, and was ancestor of the MORGANS of Llantarnam, (raised to the degree of a Baronet, in 1642,) now represented by the family of BLEWITT,* and the MORGANS of Tredunnock, whose heir is MRS. JANE HAWKINS, of The Garn. (See BURKE'S Extinct Baronetage.)
