About Frances Yanta
Also known as Frances Janta and Frances Yanta.
According to their daughter Cecilia, Frank and Frances came to America by ship in 1888. The 28-day voyage was difficult. Four of their five children died shortly after they arrived in Morrison County, Minnesota. Eight other children were born later.
Like many Poles, Frances and her brothers John and Joseph Eckman left German-controlled Poland in search of freedom, and to escape Prussian militarism (which included conscription) and the Kulturkamp emphasis on the Lutheran religion and German language and culture.
