BA (Hons) English and Geography • Got hurdling blue at Wits • Went to Teachers Training College, Johannesburg. Stayed in Knockando Mens Res • Worked at Yeoville School. Met Bessie there. • Set up house in 54 Carisbrooke Road, Sydenham, Jhb • Joined King Edward VII School, mid 1930’s (KES) • Volunteer with South African Artillery during WW2

• Abyssinia, North Africa, Italy
• ‘Prince Alfred’s Own Cape Field Artillery’
• Gunner, Bombardier, eventually Captain
• Mentioned in dispatches in Egypt for rescuing vehicles out of sand
• Took part in El Alamein bombardment

(Sally & John kept in touch with Ulla Eichbaum until 1985.) • Became Vice Principal at Sir John Adamson High School
