Bradley Coat of Arms
On a page entitled "Bradley Coat of Arms": "In a letter to me from Leonard A. Bradley of New York (July 8, 1887) he states that Hon. William C Bradley of Westminister, Vermont, many years since (1859) informed hin by letter that when he studied law at the close of the last century, with Judge Lyman Strong, of Amherst, Massachusetts, he boarded at the house of Dr. Coleman, and on the dinner table there he saw a silver can or tankard with a coat of arms engraved upon it, which was given to Dr. Coleman's first wife, Sally Beecher, daughter of Eliphalet and Sarah (Bradley) Beecher.Sarah Bradley Beecher was a daughter of old Stephen Bradley of New Haven. On this tankard was etched a coat of arms, as follows: Shield red, with chevcron white between three boars' heads couped, gilded, with a crest containing a boar's head couped, and gilded.Motto: "Liber ac Sapiens Esto." Leonard A. Bradley says that William C. Bradley sent him an impression of a seal made from this coat of arms on sealing wax.George H.M. Bradley sent me one of them, from which I had a brass seal engraved. He also informed me that the tankard is still in existence, in the possession of Mr. Phillip Livingston, and he hopes to get possession of it.
Records from Harleian Society Publications
In these publications, volume 12, containing William Camden's Visitation of the County of Warwick, 1619, published 1877, and edited by John Fetherston, F.S.A. are found arms and pedigree of a Bradley family which has many grounds of probability of being that from which we are immediately descended. It seems to be brought down to the very fathers of Fairfield. In the editiion of 1878, he copies it from Camden and says as follows, "Bradley (confirmed by the deputies of Camden, Clarenceux - to Francis Bradley of Coventry, grandson of William Bradley, County York, gu. a chev. Ar. between three boars' heads couped or."
