Francis Colegrove was born on 20 August 1698 in Westerly, Kent, Rhode Island to Francis Colegrove and Ann ________, both of Wales. He died in 1746 in Tioga, Tioga, Pennsylvania.

The book History and Genealogy of the Colegrove Family in America does not name the wife of Francis but lists 2 children.

There is speculation that Francis Colegrove, Sr. may have married Hannah Bailey. Richard Bailey of Newport, Rhode Island, and Samuel Bailey of Westerly, Rhode Island: Father and Son, states because if the dates and deed (Westerly Deeds, 3:32), that Samuel Bailey conveyed to his (son-in-law-) Francis Colegrove, Jr. and his wife Hannah Colegrove, thirty acres in Westerly, that Francis Colegrove, Jr. is Hannah's husband.

Death place of Tioga Center, Tioga, New York, United States did not exist in the year of his death, 1746. Tioga County Pennsylvania was formed on 1804. The Find A Grave source has the Tioga Pennsylvania location.
