About Francis L. Eames
Francis L. Eames was a direct descendant in the ninth generation of John Alden and Priscilla Mullens, the story of whose courtship was made famous in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Courtship of Miles Standish". He was the son of Asa Eames and Harriet Seabury Eames, and his mother was in descent from Elizabeth Alden, the daughter of the marriage that resulted from the question, " Why don't you speak for yourself, John?"
Mr. Eames was a long-time resident of Brooklyn Heights and at the time of his death at home on November 10, 1912 had lived for twenty-five years at 125 Remsen Street.
He was a well known Wall Street figure and was first elected a member of the governing committee of the New York Stock Exchange in 1879. He rose to become President of the Exchange in 1894-1898. He wrote "The History of the New York Stock Exchange".
