notes

It seems reasonable to think that he was the father of Cousin Thomas Moore, the mariner of Boston, who Edmund years later, on this side of the Atlantic made overseer of his will.[3]

One common and erroneous claim by many amateur genealogists is that Edmund is the son of Francis Moore. This is largely discredited by the genealogy document entitled Sara, First Wife of Edmund Greenleaf, by Dorothy Greenleaf Boynton. Sara (Moore) Greenleaf was sister to Francis Moore of Cambridge, Mass., and Numerous probates and Maldon, Essex, England baptismal, marriage, and death records are cited. The document lists the children of Francis Moore, and no mention of Edmund Senior Moores is given. Of the Moores/Moore's present in Newbury, Mass. (Edmund, Matthew, and Samuel) during those early years, only Samuel Moore(s) is a viable child of Francis Moore. The temptation by family historians to link Edmund to Francis is an attractive proposition due to the proximity of Cambridge to Newbury and Edmund Greenleaf, like Edmund Moores, being a founding member of the township, not to mention the similarity in surnames. However, the aforementioned document fairly thoroughly eliminates Francis Moore as father to our Edmund.

Francis Moore, the son of Enoch Moore (1561 - 1615) and his wife Catherine ____, was baptized 2 September 1592 in All Saints parish, Maldon, Essex.[1]

Francis MOORE, freeman, 1639, Cambridge, MA Some say that Francis MOORE married Catherine MONFORD?? in1629 in ENGLAND.If this is true, then any children born to this couple were born between 1630 and her death in 1648.Several of the MOORE's in Cambridge and Boston, etc., were listed as born in the 1620's.So that might mean that more than one son was born to Francis MOORE with his first wife, ___ _____. Also, any MOORE born before ~1610 who was somehow related to Francis MOORE in Cambridge would have had to have been a sibling or cousin. And, with the exception of the MOORE's who arrived in 1620 on the "Mayflower," most other MOORE's seem to have arrived in the 1630's.
