About Francis Mariba Taylor
Mariba (Menifee County, Kentucky): This hamlet with post office on US 460, 3 miles south east of Frenchburg, is said to have been named by William C. Taylor, merchant, lumberman, county judge, school superintendent, postmaster, and large landowner, for his wife, Mariba Osborn Taylor. The post office was established as Hariba, probably a spelling error, on May 10,1882, with Jonathan Osborn, postmaster. Taylor became postmaster in 1883, and Mariba herself secceeded him in 1886 and had the name changed to Mariba. The community may also have been nicknamed Pokeberry. 80, 1154.
