Francis ye 4th is a son of Mary B. Cornwell and Sgt. Francis Whitmore the 3rd of Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut, formerly Hartford County, Connecticut, British Colonial America.
He was their first child of twelve known in the family. He married Sarah Prior 20 February 1723 at Middletown.
They had seven known children, the last being about five when Francis died.
Francis was under the command of Captain Roger Newberry in 1743 into the expedition against the Spanish West Indies when he died.
Prior to his leaving Connecticut on this mission, he had made a purchase of land situated in Middletown and the particulars of this purchase is detailed in The Public Records of the Colony of Connecticut [1637-1776].
