MEMORIAL PHOTOS 0 FLOWERS 1 Frances was the daughter of Joseph Philippe Stoltz (b. 23 Aug 1768 in Schaffhouse-près-Seltz, Alsace and d. 26 Jan 1839 in Seltz, Alsace, France) and Thérèse Schall (b. 2 Mar 1783 in Schaffhouse-près-Seltz, Alsace and d. 3 Feb 1839 in Seltz, Alsace, France). Frances had 4 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters.

On 15 April 1839, shortly after both her parents died, Frances married François 'Joseph' Lauter (b. 8 Oct 1808 in Seltz, Alsace and d. 20 Jan 1850 in Seltz).

Frances and Joseph had 2 children together, Joseph Lauter -aka Louter - (b. 26 Oct 1842 in Seltz, Alsace and d. 26 Dec 1911 in Clay County, Illinois) and Catherine - nee Lauter - Fideline Romine (b. 12 Sep 1845 in Seltz, Alsace and d. 2 Oct 1913 in Cass County, Nebraska).

After Frances' husband Joseph died in 1850, on 29 Sep 1852 in Seltz, Alsace, she married the recent widower Antoine 'Anthony' Dotzauer (b. 1 Apr 1804 in Seltz, Alsace). Anthony had 7 children from his first marriage to Madeleine Albenesius (1807-1852). The blended family had 9 children. On 27 Feb 1854, their only child together, Louis Dotzauer, was born in Schaffhouse-près-Seltz.

When Frances, Antoine, their children and grandchildren came to America, they settled in Illinois and later many in the family ended up in Nebraska and Iowa as their families grew. Since Frances was the matriarch of the blended family, she had been assumed to be the biological mother of Anthony's children who were born before 1850 - when in reality, she was the mother of only his youngest son, Louis.

In June 1885, the Nebraska census in South Bend, Cass County, shows that Frances and Anthony are living with their son Louis. A few years later in 1888 Louis married Louise Hopke in Lincoln, Nebraska.

As of 2020, there are no death records available for Frances or her husband Anthony - and unfortunately with the missing 1890 census, there is little hope to find out exactly when Frances and Anthony died, but is probable that both died in Nebraska between June 1885 and before 1900.
