About Francois Croizet
GEDCOM Note
!From JUDICE LAND GRANT by Mrs. Stephen Roy Campbell [New Orleans Genesis]: "It is not known where Francois Croizet (born and died about 1724-1782) came from, probably France or Switzerland to Louisiana during the very early seventeen fifties seemingly by way of Canada to Point Coupee where French settlers had established themselves at an early date, as early as 1703. In a record of the Superior Council 6-24-1751, Francois Croizet is listed, in Pointe Coupee as a cooper, age 27. About 1752 he married Genevieve Cheval born 1727, widow of Antoine Rousseau, (son of Anne De Gravel of Natchez and of Nicholas Rousseau of the German Coast) and also widow of Jean Pierre Perret (son of Jean Pierre Perret a Frenchman who settled in Louisiana in 1723 and his wife Marie Morel). She, Genevieve, was the daughter of Francois Cheval Sr. and Marie Colombat." "Of the union of Francois Croizet Sr. and widow Genevieve Rousseau Perret, two sons were born. The bride was Marianne Trepagnier born 1736, daughter of Francois Trepagnier and Marie Louise E. Barre. She died 7-16-1826 at the age of 90. Of this union seven daughters were born between the year 1758 and 1781. "Croizet also obtained back lands in 1774 to his front and later an additional 4 arpents front adjoining and above his 30 arpents. Those four arpents purchased jointly with Hubert Remy a Frenchman residing in New Orleans brought Croizet's holdings from St. James Catholic Church, going up river, to the land of Louis Pierre Arcenceaux, Sec. 16 - No. 104, 5 arpents (part of a tract of land of 10 arpents, 2 toises and 3 feet front) (St. Cecile Plantation of present time) owned by Clerville Falgoust." "Croizet's four arpents puchased with Remy, the Remy land and nearly all of Croizet's holdings passed into the hands of various owners some of whom had married Croizet girls. Among the daughters of Franocois Croizet Sr. and MariAnne Trepagnier we find: 1. Jeanne 2. Madeline Manette 3. Justine Claris 4. Helen 5. Suzanne 6. Marie Elizabeth 7. Henriette The sons of Francois Croizet Sr. were: 1. Francois Jr. 2. Simon "A similar name to Croizet, "Crozet," is to be found in St. James Parish. That family was establishe on the East Bank of the Mississippi River at Convent where Adolph Crozet and his wife and family resided on their plantation prior to 1839, arriving in St. James about 1825.
