About Frank Dahlberg
FRANK DAHLBERG is a good reperesentative of the Swedes in Taylor. He owns and lives on a large farm, just north of the town, where he grows cotton. Mr. Dahlberg has tried his hand at a little bit of everything since he grew up and had finished school in Sweden. He worked in a factory in his home-land. In this country he worked as a store-clerk, store-manager, grocer, cotton-trader, and lately, a farmer. It is the last of these mentioned that is probably the most satisfying. Mr. Dahlberg was born in Jersnäs in Småland in 1862, and is the son of Carl Fredrik Dahlberg, a farmer. In 1883, he left his home and country and went to seek his future on the other side of the world. Round Rock, Texas, was his destination. Just think how many people from Småland have debarked here, in this rocky little town, and then spread from there in different directions in Texas. After working for a year, for monthly wages, young Dahlberg had saved enough to buy a few horses and start farming on his own. For three years be leased land at Mankin’s Crossing near Georgetown. Mr. Dahlberg left farming, however, and started working as a clerk for Womack and Sturgis in Taylor. He stayed there for six years. He worked as manager of Mrs. Hilda Nelson’s store in New Sweden in 1893, but he moved to Hutto the following year. Here, he opened his own business. He was the leading businessman there for fourteen years and was successful because of hard work and a talent for business. In 1908, he sold the business and moved to Taylor. He moved near the town to the farm which he had bought a few years earlier. He was not only successful in business, but also as a farmer. His beautiful farm is one of the best kept and most productive in the area. Mr. Dahlberg and his family have belonged to the Swedish Methodist Church for many years and have taken a prominent role in the congregation. Mr. Dahlherg has served as Sunday school director, leader, proctor, and other important positons. Both the church and the community have benefited from his help and work. In 1891, he married Miss Amanda Christina Anderson, born in Svenarum, Småland. She came to Austin directly from Sweden with her sister, Mrs. John Bush, in Georgetown in 1886. They have seven children living namely: Celess 1892, married to Mr. Arthur Ryden, living in Waco, Texas; Elmer 1897, Gunnar 1901, Ivar 1904, Prances 1906, Howard 1911, and Vivian 1914. Their daughter, Signe, died in young years.
Frank died May 20, 1934 in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas.
