About Frank Robert Haas, Sr

Frank Robert Haas, Sr., 88, passed away March 21, 2016, after a long and blessed life. He was born in Mobile, AL, and was a lifelong resident of Mobile, and the Crichton and Tanner Williams communities. He loved the area and was an amateur historian (as professional historians rely on facts which he found cumbersome). Bud, as he was known as a child, loved the natural wonders of the area, and spent his childhood summers on Mon Louis Island in South Mobile County. As an adult, he was an avid sportsman; enjoying bird hunting, fishing, and the ensuing fish tales which abounded. Frank attended Gulf Coast Military Academy, served in WWII, and worked for years at his family’s business: Haas-Davis Meats in Prichard, AL. He applied his talents as BBQ Master, occasional skit performer, and Christmas parade route Santa for many friends and community events. He also sat on the Board of the Alabama Cattleman's Association and the County 4-H Club. His adventurous nature, quick wit, and ability to speak forthrightly, and with humor, made him a favorite with many...especially his adoring family and friends. Mr. Haas is survived by his siblings, William Oliver Haas (Darlene) and Betty Haas Wilson (Tom, deceased); his children, Frank Robert Haas, Jr. (Deana), Russell Allen Haas (Erica), Kathleen Haas Grasse, and Laura Haas Becker (Eric). Mr. Haas is also survived by four grandchildren, Mary Ann Haas, Lindsay Blackwood (Wayne), Bade Scruggs Schnurr (Martin), Thomas ‘Parker’ Grasse, Joe H. Grasse, Libby Lord Burge (Ryan), and Sarah Lord Baker, Eric A. Cleveland; and his great grandchildren, Jon Bailey and Gabriella. He was predeceased by his father, William Oliver Haas, his mother, Beatrice Venturini Haas; as well as his half-siblings, Melvin, George, Lucille, Tootsie, Harry, Oliver, Winston, and Marguerite; his grandson, Frank Robert (Trea) Haas, III; and his adorable bride of 62 years, Mary Frances Jordan Haas. Also, we are sure he would want us to remember his loving surrogate mother, Vallie, who cared for him after his mother's death. Visitation will be Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 9:00 am followed by a 10:00 am service at Tanner Williams United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Coastal Conservation Association Alabama (CCA Alabama), P.O. Box 16987, Mobile, AL 36616, or the Alabama 4-H Mobile County (online at www.aces.edu/4-H-youth/AL4-H/counties/Mobile.php) Arrangements by Ascension Funerals & Cremations, Mobile, AL
