Biography of Frank Hampshire

Frank Hampshire was born in England and received his electrical engineering training there. He worked for an electrical utility in England and then two years in Brazil with a US-owned utility. In 1954 he emigrated to Canada and joined the Walter Dow organization, where he is still active. During his long career Mr. Hampshire has gained expertise in many aspects of electrical engineering applicable to mining and heavy industry. Among these areas of expertise, recognized by his clients and his peers is the application of generators, driven by steam, natural gas, diesel and alternate fuels. The total energy concept with the maximum use of waste heat, load shedding and power factor control have become other fields of endeavour for Frank Hampshire. In 1964 he became a director of Walter Dow Associates Ltd. and from 1977 to 1984 became its president.

HAMPSHIRE Frank - 1930 - 2003, died peacefully at Jubilee Hospital after a long and devastating illness. Frank immigrated to Canada from Oldham, England in 1954 and started work as a junior engineer with Walter Dow & Co. Consulting Electrical Engineers ending as President in 1976. After retirement we moved to Sidney. He will be painfully and forever missed by wife, Midge; stepdaughter, Deborah; stepson, Roger; step-granddaughter, Alice and many nephews and nieces in Ottawa and U.K. Frank was against
religious ceremonies and threatened to come back and haunt me if any services or memorials were held so to all his friends who enjoyed his quirky humour, please raise a glass and drink a toast to his memory, it's what he wanted. Many thanks to the staff of Kenning 11 Ward at the Jubilee for their care and kindness.

Frank appears in the 1939 UK Register, living with his mother, Ethel Hampshire nee Hilton, maternal grandmother Mary Hilton, and brother, Alan Roscoe Hampshire. They were living in Lees, Lancashire.
