Funeral of late Mr Frank Osterhaus, whose death occurred last Wed, Aug 13 1924 at 3:20 o'clock, was held last Sat morning at 9:30 o'clock, from his home to St Francis Church, where requiem mass was sung for repose of his soul by Rev Fr Weihl, aft which interment was made in St Francis Cem. Pallbearers were Messrs August Bagge. John Gebhart, Anton Drexler, John Sudmeier, Jacob Reiff & Andy Fessler. Mr Osterhaus' death brought to close long period of suffering, dating 6 mo, & was due to cancer. Deceased was patient sufferer & everything possible was done by kind & loving hands to alleviate his sufferings. Deceased b at Steinfeld, Oldenburg, Ger, Dec 1 1847, & was nearly 77 yrs old when death claimed him. His youthful days were spent in his native village, where he also rec'd his education. In 1866 he emigrated to this country, arriving in Dyersville Jul 3 of that yr. He then went to New Vienna, & aft residing there short time, went to Petersburg, & resided there until early 70's when he came back to Dyersville & has lived here ever since. Feb 18 1873 Mr Osterhaus m Miss Elizabeth Klaus In St Francis Church of this city, late Rev Fr Kortenkamp officiating. Aft their marriage they went to housekeeping on farm near Dyersville, & they followed pursuits of farming until 13 yrs ago when they retired & came to Dyersville to live, taking up their abode on west Main. Besides wife, deceased is survived by following children: Henry, Miller, SD; Anna (Wm) Sabers, Salem, SD; Joseph, Bernard; Fred, Epworth; Kathryn (John) Roling & Josephine (Henry) Becker, Worthington; Frank, Bernard & Anton, Dyersville. One bro, H Joseph Osterhaus, Petersburg; & 1 sis Mrs Joseph Schrad, Raeville, NE, also survive, besides 50 grdchildren. One sis, Mrs H Olberding, Arcadia, preceded him to grave abt yr ago. Mr Osterhaus was 1 of early pioneers of this vicinity, arriving here over 50 yrs ago, & during that time has seen then vast prairies develop into fertile farming lands. Deceased was staunch Catholic & lived strictly in accord w/its tchgs, & when death claimed him was well prepared w/its last rites. He was devoted husband & father & has reared family of children of whom he could feel justly proud. To neighbors he was ever loyal, & gave his assistance whenever opportunity presented itself. He will be sadly missed not only by those near & dear to him, but by countless friends, who will ever cherish his many noble & kind deeds. Heartfelt sympathy is extended bereaved ones in this their time of sorrow. Amg those present at funeral from abroad were Herman Olberding, Arcadia; Chris Montag, wife & dtr Mary & Mr & Mrs Adam Montag, E Dubuque, IL; Henry Beckmann, Granville; Joseph Froehle, Dubuque; Henry Osterhaus, wife & son, Joseph Osterhaus & wife, Bloomington, WI; & Mr & Mrs James McElliott, Manchester.
