During World War I Frank enlisted as a private January 22, 1918. He was a member of the 286 th Aero Squadron, U.S. Army. His squadron was deployed to England for training shortly thereafter. The war ended while they were still in England and on November 25, 1918, the steamship Maurentania sailed from Liverpool bound for New York with twenty-four aero squadrons including the 286 th Aero Squadron. At this time his squadron consisted of two officers and one hundred forty additional men. He received an honorable discharge April 8, 1919.
Frank was described as quite good looking and a lady's man. He married three times.
Frank is shown in the 1920 California census in Menlo Park Village, U.S. Public Health Service Hospital for Veterans of World War I. He was shot during the war and had shrapnel in his lungs.
