About Franklin Buckalew
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Buckalew was a graduate of the University of Delaware and was a passionate follower of the university's sports programs. He received a Masters Degree in Public Health Medicine from Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y., and a Masters Degree in History from Western Connecticut State University. He also earned a certificate as a Diplomate in laboratory management. Mr. Buckalew was the Microbiology Supervisor for over 27 years at Danbury Hospital until retiring in 1995. Frank was a voracious reader and had a tremendous thirst for knowledge.
Besides his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara, he is survived by his five children, Beth Ann Harney and her husband, Michael, of Bolton, Larry Boehm of San Diego, Calif., Linda Cohen and her husband, Jeff, of New York City, James Boehm of Meriden, and Steven Boehm and his wife, Cynthia, of Wilmington, Del.; a brother, Howard Buckalew of Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Joyce Ryan and her husband, Jim, of Elsmere, Del.; a sister-in-law, Theresa Buckalew of Claymont, Del.; seven wonderful grandchildren, Ian and Gavin Harney, Joel, Melissa, and Sarah Boehm, Charlie Cohen and Andrew Boehm, and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by a son, Christopher Boehm, and a brother, Bart Buckalew.
